I’m working now with machines with GigaBytes of RAM – so much memory to use with Smalltalk. But there were times in my personal history, with system with 4MByte RAM and Smalltalk (like the Mega ST4).
But there was IT-life even before Atari ST (and Smalltalk) – and this was in general 8 bit oriented. I have a weekend behind me with lots of old stuff. Tape based software, Z80 assembler, playing around with emulators and old assembler code and reading in books about the old CP/M system.
And then searching for old stuff to make my old computer start again:
Introduction to an old computer – how the hell do machines like this can work ?
