Raspberry PI and Risc OS

After reading this posting I bought such a device and it is simply amazing what one can do with a €40 cheap computer.

I tried both the Linux distribution, but also RISC OS to get a feeling for this little device.

But it seems, that one should consider this as a light machine and therefore RISC OS feels pretty snappy working on 1920×1200 pixels.

Perhaps we might see Squeak running on this machine

  1. Note that Scratch has been a big part of the Raspberry Pi since it was first shown to the public. Though it hides the underlying Squeak, there is a project to speed up Scratch on this machine and this should help efforts like Tim’s.

In fact, Tim was sent the RPi specifically to optimize Squeak on it (the RPI folks contacted me via John Maloney and I got Tim involved)

  2. Bert says:

Squeak *is* already running. On Linux, Scratch is even pre-installed. And Tim Rowledge got Squeak to run under RiscOS.
